What is Gestalt Counselling?

About Gestalt Counselling

'Gestalt' is a German word, meaning 'whole', with the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. The aim of Gestalt counselling is the discovery, exploration and experience of wholeness as a person, by integration of all parts. This allows you to become fully what you already are, and to fulfil the potential of what you can become.

What Conditions Can it Help?

Gestalt is a very versatile counselling approach, which can be adapted to most people and circumstances. As the main aim is development of awareness, rather than focusing on specific symptoms or conditions, Gestalt counsellors tend not to use 'labels' or diagnoses but see the person as a 'whole'. Many clients may come with general feelings of unhappiness, confusion or dissatisfaction. Others may come with specific difficulties, such as:

  • Relationships
  • Panic Attacks
  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement
  • Domestic Violence
  • Depression
  • Workplace Bullying

    What Benefits can be Expected?

Benefits include increased awareness, which allows you to use your own inner resources to make choices and manage your life or specific situation more effectively.
